Coon Lake, South of Dumas
This interesting photo is in the archives files at Window on the Plains. The photo was taken in 1962 of the lake on the Coon Ranch, three miles south of Dumas.
The lake was operated by a corporation of fifty local citizens for fishing and recreation.
The pond held about 165 cu. ft. of water.
Trees were planted by the corporation and the lake was stocked and fertilized. The corporation built picnic tables and boat docks. Boats were provided, to be used by members.
An irrigation well pumped 500 gallons of water per minute, 24 hours a day into the lake.
The lake was developed with the help of the Soil and Water Conservation District.
